The Way I Rock

Stereo Sinai is a pop band, and you can be sure that we'll be blogging about plenty of pop culture icons and celebrities in the future (look out, Mayim Bialik!). But yesterday's Greater Chicago Jewish Festival really got me thinking about the local pop culture, and you really can't delve too far into contemporary Midwestern Jewish pop culture figures without talking about Evën Sh'siyah. My life changed forever when I was 12 years old, because it was then that I first met the band's drummer, Matt. He was the very first person to get me to notice that it's okay to be both cool AND Jewish. As a musician I could respect him because he was the best drummer I had ever seen, and as a Jew I could respect him because he respects me, and my faith. As it turns out, that's what the rest of the band is like, too. They'll rock your face off, but your heart'll still be in the right place.

It's only fitting that this site pay homage in its humble beginnings to Evën Sh'siyah. Were it not for them, I'm sure Stereo Sinai would never have had the motivation to succeed. Lots of people have that one really cool band or song that seems to follow them around through life, and mine just happens to be both cool and Jewish.
